About the Rooftop Ecology Weblog Administrator

My name is Ian. I’m an emigre Scot living and working in Tokyo.  I’m an active environmentalist in that I am seeking to reduce my carbon footprint by living more responsibly. I used to do a philosophical martial art called Shorinji Kempo and three of the tenets of that philosophy continue to be my guiding lights even though travel and my knees haven’t allowed me to continue practising.

We love justice, respect humanity, observe courtesy, keep the peace and determine to be true and brave.

We strive to master the art and discipline the body and soul. We love our comrades and help each other. We cooperate and endeavour to establish an ideal world.

Rely on yourself and not on others. No one is as reliable as your own well disciplined self.

The Art for me now is in being the best person I can be, both for myself and other people. This is difficult as I am occasionally stubborn as a mule, a trifle opinionated and horribly sarcastic (as only the Scots can be). Doing my bit for the environment and the people around me is my way of making up for being a bit of a git sometimes.

The rice and wheat bran is basically the food for your microbes and so you could use whatever you have to hand and see if that works.
